Obituary

Reverend Melvin L. White was born on May 16, 1959 to the Late Bishop Jesse White and Ionie Grace White in Fort Wayne, IN.  In his early years, he attended North Side High School and graduated known as “ Mel The Pain” in football and wrestling. His athletic abilities granted him a full athletic scholarship to the University of Evansville. Melvin was united in holy matrimony to Claudette (Smith) White March 2, 1985, and to this union two children were born, Jessica Grace White and Jonathan Blake White.

Rev. White accepted the call to ministry at a young age. He enjoyed fishing, traveling with his father, singing, playing drums, and serving on the media teams where his father pastored. He was licensed and ordained on July 12, 1982 and began serving at True Love Missionary Baptist Church as an Associate Minister, under the leadership and council of his father, Bishop Jesse White. He later answered the call to pastor Mount Olive Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana. After retiring from local pastoral leadership in South Bend, he began his evangelistic ministries.

Rev. White sought God for innovative ways to create global change and promote the gospel. He established and hosted “The Prayer Chain of Faith” conference call where over 12,000 members joined from all over the world to engage in corporate prayer, praise and worship. This ministry is still growing strong today!

Rev. Melvin L. White departed this life on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Jesse and Ionie Grace White.

Cherishing his loving memory are his children, Jessica G. White and Jonathan Blake; god daughter, Rotaynda King: brothers, Jesse White Jr., Marshall (Cindy) White and Jevon (LaTonya) White: sisters, Joyce (Herly) Harrison, Pastor Glenda (Pastor Virgil) Griffin, Patricia (Jerry) Hunt, Cloretta (Jordan) Hudson and Pastor Rhonda (Bishop Willie) Bolden: god sister, Nicole (Simon) Shuman along with a host of other relatives and friends.
